How to Use the Kilner Wide Mouth Preserve Jar 500ml

Step 1: Cleaning the Jar

  • Wash the jar thoroughly with warm soapy water.
  • Rinse well to remove any soap residue.
  • Sterilize the jar by placing it in boiling water for 10 minutes, then let it air dry.

Step 2: Preparing the Contents

  • Choose your preferred preserve, such as jams, jellies, or pickles.
  • Follow your recipe to prepare the preserve.
  • Ensure your preparation is ready before filling the jar.

Step 3: Filling the Jar

  • Carefully ladle your prepared preserve into the sterilized jar.
  • Leave some space at the top, about 1/4 inch, to allow for expansion.
  • Wipe the rim of the jar to ensure it is clean and dry.

Step 4: Sealing the Jar

  • Place the lid on the jar and twist it securely.
  • If using a two-part lid, tighten the metal ring until it is fingertip tight.

Step 5: Processing the Jar (Optional)

  • For long-term storage, process the filled jar in a boiling water bath for the time specified in your recipe.
  • Remove the jar carefully and let it cool undisturbed for 12 to 24 hours.
  • Check the seal by pressing the center of the lid; it should not pop back.

Step 6: Storing the Preserves

  • Label the jar with the contents and date of preservation.
