How to Use 151 Classic Mahogany Varnish

Materials Needed

• 151 Classic Mahogany Varnish (180ml)
• Paintbrush or foam applicator
• Sandpaper (medium and fine grit)
• Clean cloth
• Protective gloves
• Stirring stick
• Drop cloth or newspaper for protection

Preparation

1. Ensure the surface you intend to varnish is clean, dry, and free from dust or grease.
2. Use medium grit sandpaper to gently sand the surface to remove any old varnish or uneven spots.
3. Switch to fine grit sandpaper for a smoother finish.
4. Wipe the surface with a clean cloth to remove any sanding dust.

Application

1. Lay down a drop cloth or newspaper to protect surrounding areas from drips.
2. Put on protective gloves to avoid any skin contact with the varnish.
3. Open the tin of 151 Classic Mahogany Varnish and stir thoroughly with a stirring stick to ensure even consistency.
4. Dip your paintbrush or foam applicator into the varnish, removing any excess by tapping it gently against the side of the tin.
5. Apply the varnish to the surface in long, even strokes following the grain of the wood.
6. Allow the first coat to dry completely as per the manufacturer’s instructions (usually a few hours).
7. Once dry, lightly sand the surface with fine grit sandpaper to remove any imperfections.
8. Wipe the surface clean with a cloth to remove any dust before applying additional coats.

Finishing

1. Apply additional coats as needed, repeating the application and drying process until the desired finish is achieved.
2. Allow the final coat to dry completely before using or placing any items on the varnished surface.
3. Clean your tools with the appropriate solvent as recommended on the varnish tin.
