Installation Steps
Step 1: Prepare the Door
- Measure and mark the height at which you want to install the latch on the door’s edge.
- Ensure the position aligns with the door frame’s striking plate.
Step 2: Drill and Chisel the Mortice
- Using the drill, create a hole at the marked position for the latch’s body.
- Chisel out the wood to fit the mortice latch snugly into the door.
Step 3: Fit the Latch
- Insert the latch into the morticed hole and ensure it fits flat against the door edge.
- Mark the screw holes and drill pilot holes.
- Screw the latch plate to the door.
Step 4: Install the Striking Plate
- Close the door to mark where the latch contacts the frame.
- Drill a hole on the frame for the latch bolt.
- Chisel out space for the striking plate to sit flush with the frame.
- Screw the striking plate into place.
Step 5: Test the Latch
- Close the door and ensure the latch engages smoothly with the striking plate.
- Make any necessary adjustments for perfect alignment.
Maintenance Tips
- Periodically check screws to ensure they remain tight.
- Apply lubricant to the latch mechanism if it becomes stiff.
