How to Use the Kilner Wide Mouth Preserve Jar 500ml
Step 1: Cleaning the Jar
- Wash the jar thoroughly with warm soapy water.
- Rinse well to remove any soap residue.
- Sterilize the jar by placing it in boiling water for 10 minutes, then let it air dry.
Step 2: Preparing the Contents
- Choose your preferred preserve, such as jams, jellies, or pickles.
- Follow your recipe to prepare the preserve.
- Ensure your preparation is ready before filling the jar.
Step 3: Filling the Jar
- Carefully ladle your prepared preserve into the sterilized jar.
- Leave some space at the top, about 1/4 inch, to allow for expansion.
- Wipe the rim of the jar to ensure it is clean and dry.
Step 4: Sealing the Jar
- Place the lid on the jar and twist it securely.
- If using a two-part lid, tighten the metal ring until it is fingertip tight.
Step 5: Processing the Jar (Optional)
- For long-term storage, process the filled jar in a boiling water bath for the time specified in your recipe.
- Remove the jar carefully and let it cool undisturbed for 12 to 24 hours.
- Check the seal by pressing the center of the lid; it should not pop back.
Step 6: Storing the Preserves
- Label the jar with the contents and date of preservation.
- Store the jar in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cupboard.
- Once opened, keep the preserve refrigerated and consume within the recommended time frame.
