How to Use the Kilner Wide Mouth Preserve Jar 350ml
Step 1: Preparing the Jar
- Wash the jar thoroughly with warm, soapy water to ensure it is clean.
- Rinse the jar with hot water to remove any soap residue.
- Dry the jar completely with a clean towel or allow it to air dry.
Step 2: Sterilizing the Jar
- Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C).
- Place the clean jar on a baking tray.
- Put the tray in the oven and leave the jar to sterilize for about 20 minutes.
- Use oven mitts to carefully remove the jar from the oven and allow it to cool.
Step 3: Filling the Jar
- Prepare the preserve or contents you wish to store in the jar, ensuring it is hot when filling.
- Use a funnel to carefully pour the contents into the jar, leaving about 1/4 inch of space at the top.
- Wipe the rim of the jar with a clean, damp cloth to remove any spills.
Step 4: Sealing the Jar
- Place the lid on the jar and screw on the band until it is fingertip tight.
- Ensure that the lid is centered and secure for an airtight seal.
Step 5: Storing the Jar
- Label the jar with the contents and date of preservation.
- Store the jar in a cool, dark place such as a pantry or cupboard.
- Check the seal periodically to ensure it remains intact.
Additional Tips
- Always use new lids when preserving to ensure a proper seal.
- Do not overfill the jar; leave enough headspace for expansion.
- If the jar does not seal properly, refrigerate and consume the contents promptly.
