How to Use the HAWKINS CL40 Classic Pressure Cooker 4L

1. Initial Setup

• Remove all packaging materials and stickers from the pressure cooker.
• Wash the cooker body, lid, and any removable parts with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
• Check that the gasket (rubber ring) is properly fitted inside the lid.

2. Preparing to Cook

• Ensure the pressure cooker is on a stable, flat surface.
• Add the ingredients and the required amount of liquid into the cooker. Do not fill more than two-thirds full to allow space for steam.
• Securely place the lid on the cooker, aligning the lid handle with the body handle.
• Ensure the vent tube is clear and the pressure regulator (weight) is not on the vent tube while closing the lid.

3. Cooking

• Place the sealed pressure cooker on the stove over medium-high heat.
• When steam starts to escape steadily from the vent tube, place the pressure regulator on the vent tube.
• Wait for the pressure regulator to start rocking gently; this indicates the cooker has reached the correct pressure.
• Reduce the heat to maintain a slow, steady rocking motion of the regulator.
• Cook for the duration specified in your recipe while maintaining the gentle rocking of the regulator.

4. Releasing Pressure

• Turn off the heat source and allow the pressure cooker to cool down naturally until the pressure drops completely. This is indicated when the regulator stops rocking, and no steam escapes.
• Alternatively, use a cold-water release method by carefully placing the cooker under running cold water until pressure drops completely.
• Once depressurized, carefully remove the pressure regulator.

5. Opening the Cooker

• Ensure all pressure has been released and no steam escapes from the vent tube.
• Turn the lid handle slightly to unlock and lift it away from you to avoid any remaining steam.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

• Wash the cooker, lid, and removable parts with warm soapy water after each use.
• Ensure the gasket and vent tube are clear of any food particles.
• Store the cooker with the lid inverted on the body to extend the gasket’s life.

• Never force open the pressure cooker if it is still under pressure.
• Regularly check the gasket and replace it if it shows signs of wear.
