How to Use 151 Classic Mahogany Varnish
Materials Needed
- 151 Classic Mahogany Varnish (180ml)
- Paintbrush or foam applicator
- Sandpaper (medium and fine grit)
- Clean cloth
- Protective gloves
- Stirring stick
- Drop cloth or newspaper for protection
Preparation
- Ensure the surface you intend to varnish is clean, dry, and free from dust or grease.
- Use medium grit sandpaper to gently sand the surface to remove any old varnish or uneven spots.
- Switch to fine grit sandpaper for a smoother finish.
- Wipe the surface with a clean cloth to remove any sanding dust.
Application
- Lay down a drop cloth or newspaper to protect surrounding areas from drips.
- Put on protective gloves to avoid any skin contact with the varnish.
- Open the tin of 151 Classic Mahogany Varnish and stir thoroughly with a stirring stick to ensure even consistency.
- Dip your paintbrush or foam applicator into the varnish, removing any excess by tapping it gently against the side of the tin.
- Apply the varnish to the surface in long, even strokes following the grain of the wood.
- Allow the first coat to dry completely as per the manufacturer’s instructions (usually a few hours).
- Once dry, lightly sand the surface with fine grit sandpaper to remove any imperfections.
- Wipe the surface clean with a cloth to remove any dust before applying additional coats.
Finishing
- Apply additional coats as needed, repeating the application and drying process until the desired finish is achieved.
- Allow the final coat to dry completely before using or placing any items on the varnished surface.
- Clean your tools with the appropriate solvent as recommended on the varnish tin.
Storage
- Close the tin securely and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
