How to Use Blackspur PTFE Thread Sealing Tape

Materials Needed

• Blackspur PTFE Thread Sealing Tape
• Pipe or fitting to be sealed
• Scissors (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Surface

• Ensure that the threads of the pipe or fitting are clean and dry.
• Remove any dirt, oil, or debris that may affect the sealing.

2. Start Wrapping the Tape

• Hold the pipe or fitting in one hand.
• With your other hand, place the end of the PTFE tape on the threads at the end of the pipe.
• Ensure that the tape is snug against the threads to avoid gaps.

3. Wrap in the Correct Direction

• Wrap the tape around the threads in the same direction as the direction of the threads.
• This is usually clockwise but verify with your specific fitting.
• Wrap the tape tightly to ensure it stays in place.

4. Apply the Appropriate Number of Layers

• Wrap the tape around the threads 2 to 4 times, depending on the size of the pipe and the thickness of the tape.
• For most applications, 3 layers should be sufficient.

5. Finish the Wrap

• Once the desired number of layers is reached, tear or cut the tape.
• Press the loose end of the tape against the threads to secure it.

6. Assemble the Joint

• Screw the pipe or fitting into place.
• The tape will help create a tight seal to prevent leaks.

• Avoid over-tightening as it may damage the threads or tape.
• Use new PTFE tape for each installation to ensure a secure seal.
