How to Use Kilner Replacement Seal Discs for Preserving Jars
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
- Kilner Preserving Jar
- Kilner Replacement Seal Discs
- Preserving jar lid
- Preserving jar screw band
- Contents to preserve (e.g., fruits, vegetables, jams)
Step 2: Prepare the Jar
- Ensure the jar is clean and sterilized before use.
- Fill the jar with the prepared contents, leaving some headspace as required for the type of food being preserved.
Step 3: Place the Seal Disc
- Take one Kilner Replacement Seal Disc from the pack.
- Place the seal disc on top of the jar, ensuring it covers the entire opening.
Step 4: Secure the Lid
- Position the preserving jar lid over the seal disc.
- Screw the jar band onto the jar, securing the lid and seal disc in place.
Step 5: Process the Jar
- Follow the recommended processing method for the type of food you are preserving (e.g., water bath canning or pressure canning).
- Ensure the jar is processed for the correct amount of time to achieve a proper seal.
Step 6: Check the Seal
- Once processed and cooled, check the seal by pressing down on the center of the lid. It should not flex or pop.
- If the seal is secure, store the jar in a cool, dark place.
- If the seal is not secure, refrigerate the jar and consume its contents promptly.
Step 7: Enjoy Your Preserved Goods
- Properly sealed jars can be stored for an extended period, allowing you to enjoy your preserved goods at a later time.
